To determine the best countries to live in as a woman, the World Economic Forum has created the Global Gender Gap Index, which measures gender equality in four areas: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.

Top Performers on the Global Gender Gap Index

The top four performers on the index are all Nordic countries—Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark—while Sweden, the other Nordic country, ranks seventh. All five countries have closed more than 80% of their gender gaps, and have achieved parity in educational attainment and health and survival.

Norway
